# Calls

> Inbound, outbound and browser calls, and what you get back for each.

A call is one conversation between a person and an agent.

## Directions

| `direction` | What it is |
| - | - |
| `inbound` | Someone called one of your numbers. |
| `outbound` | Your agent called someone. |
| `web_test` | You talked to the agent in a browser. |

## Status

A call moves through `queued`, `dialing` and `ringing` to `in_progress`, and ends as `completed`, `no_answer`, `busy`, `failed`, `canceled` or `rejected`.

## What you can read for a call

* `GET /v1/calls/{call_id}` returns the call: numbers, direction, status, timing, price and outcome.
* `GET /v1/calls/{call_id}/turns` returns the conversation turn by turn, with per-turn timings.
* `GET /v1/calls/{call_id}/analysis` returns the summary and extracted data. See [Summaries and extraction](https://docs.larynth.com/concepts/summaries.md).
* `GET /v1/calls/{call_id}/recordings` lists recordings. See [Recordings and data](https://docs.larynth.com/concepts/recordings-and-data.md).
* `GET /v1/calls/{call_id}/events` returns the raw events in order.

## Placing a call

`POST /v1/calls` places one outbound call. It goes through the same compliance checks as a campaign, so it can be refused. You set a `purpose` of `informational` or `telemarketing`, and `from_e164` must be an active number on your account. See [Compliance](https://docs.larynth.com/concepts/compliance.md).

## Ending a call

`POST /v1/calls/{call_id}/end` hangs up an active call.

## Voicemail and answering machines

For outbound calls, `amd_mode` controls what happens when a machine answers: `off`, `hangup_on_machine` or `voicemail`. The call records what Larynth detected in `amd_verdict`.

## Browser calls

Browser calls are for testing. They use WebRTC and are billed like other calls, from your free credit first. See [Test in the browser](https://docs.larynth.com/guides/test-in-browser.md).

## Concurrency

New accounts can run 5 calls at once. After business verification or your first top-up the limit is 20. If you need more, ask [support](https://docs.larynth.com/support.md).
